Motoko Otsuki is a painter based in New York. She received her B.F.A. and M.F.A. from Tokyo Zokei University. Otsuki has had many solo exhibitions, at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store in 2019 and participated group show at NowHere New York in 2021 and Tomas VanDyke Gallery at 2023. Her works have been exhibited at Art Fair Tokyo numerous times as well as at fairs in Seoul and Osaka. She has guest lecturer her alma mater in 2020 and Kyushu Sangyo University in 2022 and 2024. Otsuki cuts out scenes and landscapes that everyone has seen at least once from her unique perspective and arranges them as if they have a story. Her works seem to expose the emotional discrepancies and discomfort behind the festive mood. The elusive sense of emptiness is somehow comfortable and capturers the hearts of those of us who live in the modern age.
